The Mission by Jason Myers P.302-361

SUMMARY
Kaden is now wondering around San Francisco alone and decides that it was time to go back to James's house. When he reaches James's house he finds a note telling Kaden where James is and that he should meet him there immediately. When Kaden reaches the whip pad he overhears James and Caralie talking about how they lost him. They get on the topic of Kaden's parents and then the "stuff" really starts to hit the fan. James gets to talking about Kaden's mother and how she really didnt mean to get pregnant and that Kaden's father isn't really his father. No one really knows who Kaden's father is. Caralie then calls Kaden's mother a slut which is when James jumps to her defense. Caralie questions whether he slept with Kaden's mother (not completely expecting an answer) and James admits that he did in fact sleep with Kaden's mother when he was sixteen (Kaden's mother was adopted so she and James are not blood related). So of course Caralie asks the only logical question of if James is Kaden's father or not (which he isn't). That is when Kaden goes ballistic and chucks a can of soup at Jame and sorms out of the apartment. He heads to a nearby which is where Caralie finds him. He tells Caralie how his brother really died in Iraq. His brother was captured, tortured and killed then left by the side of the road. Caralie and Kaden are sitting by the pool and Caralie's only way of  comforting Kaden is by having sex with him (-__-). They have sex inside of the pool. They go back to Caralie's house and they have sex yet again. Kade wakes up to find James sitting at the end of Caralie's bed smoking a cigarette. James and Kaden fight about the fact that Kaden had sex with Caralie. Kaden then finds a hotel near the airport (because he is leaving in two days). Somehow Caralie find him and lets him know that her and James are splitting from eachother but that James is worried about how he is doing. Caralie passes the info about Kaden on to James and James goes to visit Kaden at the hotel. They talk about how sometimes it is best just to keep some things to themselves and that Kaden's mother should not know about what happened in San Francisco in the past week.
QUOTE
"They snapped off his fingers and cut off his balls before slitting his throat and leaving his body on the side of the road like a piece of fucking garbage" (Myers 316)
SUMMARY
I just dont know what to say about what happened in the last part of this book. its just like...woah! Kaden world just unraveled in a matter of a few hours. I wish that the story would have continued on to when he goes back home. I wanted to know how he would see his mom after he learned all of this about her. Kaden actually handled the situation pretty well, in my opinion. He didnt go overdosingon drugs nor did he go into a deep depression or anything crazy like that.

The Mission by Jason Myers p.239-301

SUMMARY
Now Kaden is back with james and his life is now back in jepoardy. Caralie drops Kaden off back at James's apartment. James starts to ask Kaden about what Caralie has been doing while James is not around. Kaden is really starting to get angry with James because james treats Caralie like a piece of crap. James takes Kaden to yet another drug dealers house by the name of Damien. Damien is a little more Dangerous than the other petty drug dealers that Kaden has met before. James has loaded guns in his apartments as well as mounds of drugs throughout the whole aprtment. When Kaden and James are almost ready to leave Kaden must not have been thinking because he touched one of Damien's guns and Damien all of a sudden points his gun at Kaden's head. Kaden is frozen with fear and Damien's finger is on the trigger. James hurriedly persuades Damien to not shoot Kaden. They quickly leave before Damien does anything else to harm kaden.
QUOTE
"Damien jumos in the air and pulls a fucking gun from his waist , points it at me, and cocks it" (Myers 261)
SUMMARY
Kaden's trip to San Francisco is a huge emotional rollercoaster. He gets insanely happy but whenever he gets back up with James, he almost gets killed and is always forced to take some coke (cocaine). Kaden is really now bewildered with the life of James and basically doesn't know what to do while he's around james and his friends. I predict that from this point in the book to the end, everything will come crashing down in a VERY big way :(

The Mission by Jason Myers p.183-238

SUMMARY
Kaden now has basically experienced everything that James's life has to offer. He is quckly starting to miss his hometown and starts to think about his girlfriend back home named Jocelyn. He started to remember the last time they saw eachother before he went to San Francisco. They met at a remote field not to far from both of their houses. They sat and talked about what he might do in San Francisco. His only highlights from his experience from San Francisco are when he is with Caralie. he and caralie are in the downtown square and all of a sudden a large group of zombies come out of the woodwork. The zombies start touching random non-zombie civilians and they then become zombies. Caralie and Kaden both join into the hour long zombie tag and when they finished, kaden feels like that was the best experience of his so far in San Francisco.
QUOTE
"I turn back to Caralie. She winks, grabs my arm, and then someone yells out: 'ZOMBIE CRAWL!'" (Myers 212)
REACTION
Kaden's experience in San Francisco is starting to get much better than when he first got there. His experience was getting more innocent and more like what an actual visit to a place you have never been to should be like.He starts to share som of his experiences in Iowa with Caralie and talks alot about his girlfriend with Caralie. He and Caralie are also getting closer than he and James are. To me the stronger connection that he has with Caralie will lead to trouble with him and james.

The Mission by Jason Myers P.92-181

SUMMARY
Kaden has his first line of coke at a  party that James has ditched him at. He and two other girls cut up a line of coke and they each took turns snorting one line each. Kaden gets insanely high and ends up roaming the streets of San Francisco in one of the worst parts of the city. He calls up Jmaes's girlfriend Caralie to come and pick him up from a Popeye's restaurant. She lets him stay at her place until she can find where James has went off to. Kaden is starting to develop a really large crush on Caralie and starts to feel contempt towards James.
QUOTES
"The White Monster turns the wheels from down inside and keeps the machine running, keeps me on the go, the white monster running everything and wielding his power with epic screaming and chanting from the gutter in my brain" (Myers 123)
REACTION
THIS IS LITERALLY THE CRAZIEST BOOK I EVER READ! Kaden is getting thrown further and further into James's twisted world. This is when Kaden really start to immerse him self into the crazy world of James. James seems not to really be a good influence on kaden and seems like he doesn't want to be bothered with him. Kaden is going to end up getting hurt if James keeps neglecting him the way he is.

The Mission by Jason Myers P.1-91

SUMMARY
15 year old Kaden Norris's brother, Kenny, has just died in iraq. He receives his last letter from him persuading him to go to San Francisco to visit his cousin James, who is a very famous and well-known author. Kaden decides to go to San Francisco to honor his brother's last wishes. Kaden reaches the airport in San Francisco expecting to meet his cousin, instead he sits waiting for at least an hour before his cousin's girlfrend Caralie finally comes to pick him up. The first time he meets James, he is strung out on Cocaine and is surrounded by filth and drugs. He follows James around the city to various drug dealer's homes and parties all throughout San Fran. He encounters peple randomly having sex in the dirty bathroom of a drug dealers home as well as guns out in the open.
QUOTE
"I trail him into his bedroom, and there's a naked girl with her eyes closed under the sheets. I sit down on this yellow and brown couch next to the door and watch him walk around a pyramid of beer cans and a stack of porn magazines" (Myers 63)
REACTION
That is certainly and interesting wayto be greeted to a place that you have NEVER been to. I was kindof shocked at first that a 15 year old would be seeing these kinds of things. Kaden doesn't really seem too shocked about the activities happening around him. Kaden's attitude almost seems as if he has seen things like this everyday (even though he hasn't because he's from Iowa). This story is crazy and its only been the first 100 pages of the book!

Cnfessions of Video Vixen p.81-121

SUMMARY
Now that Karrine is away from  Kool G Rap, she is getting even more involved in the Rich and Famous scene. She forms a relationship with Ice-T as well as lands a movie role in the movie A Man Apart starring Larenz Tate. She also starts a relationshop with Ja Rule, a famous rapper in the early 2000s,all the while neglecting her one year old son Naiim. She leaves Naiim with her abusive ex husband for weeks and even months at a time. Her life is being consumed by the party life and her latest escapades with famous men. She realizes that the men are only for a short time of pleasure but, for the time being, she doesn't care and continues to drink, take drugs, and party.
QUOTE
"The only beacon of light was my son and my relationship with papa. He was all I had left. Back then, I just couldn't stand the idea of being alone" (Steffans 121).
REACTION
Karrine by this time does not have her priorities straight and neglects to take care of her son or see him frequently. The quote above does not specify wether the "he" that she is referring to is papa or her son (which disturbs me a little bit). Karrine is obviously lonely in the industry and is aware of that fact but she just needs constant attention and affection to distract her from the fact that she is alone. To me, Karrine's life is sort of spiraling out of control but she doesn't know the severity of it yet.

Confessions of a Video Vixen p.41-80

SUMMARY
Karrine is now away from her mother and is living with her father in Arizona. Her life is now getting much better and she is no longer being abused. She lives with her father until she turns 17 and her life starts to go downhill again. She needs to make money so she can do for herself and the only way that she can do that is to become a stripper. She starts to work at a local Arizona strip club and meets a man named Kool G Rap, who was a big rap artist in the late 80s and early 90s. Not knowing that she was only 17, he takes her back to los angeles to live with him and she becomes his unofficial "wife". Soon after she moves in with him, he begins to beat her and cheat on her with no regard for her feelings. About a year into the relationship Karrine is pregnant and the abuse is getting worse as well as Kool G's health. She has contemplated leaving him many times but his verbal and physical abuse has wore her down.
QUOTE
"F*ck you, you stupid b*tch!I don't give a f*ck! I'm not sending you sh*t!You'll just have to suffer." (Steffans,77)
REACTION
Karrine would have to put up with things like this being said to her. Their relationship was very destructive for her and Kool G at the same time. Kool G was so destructive to Karrine and himself because he would hit her and then she would call the police and he would get arrested. Kool G already knew what he was doing to Karrine because he clearly said "You'll just have to suffer". He wanted Karrine to need him because he wanted to have all the power in their relationship.

Confessions of a Video Vixen pg.1-40

SUMMARY
Karrine Steffans talks about her life living on the island of St. Thomas with her grandmother,who treated her with much love and respect and her mother, who frequently abused her. She was born and raised in St. Thomas until she was about eleven and was loved and protected by her grandmother from her mother who was abusive verbally and physically. In St. Thomas she was always looked after by her grandmother because her mother was always neglecting her. Around the time she was eleven, she and her mother moved to Florida and that's when her mother really started to abuse her. she whipped her back until open sores and welts started to form and called her names like whore and worthless. Because of this Karrine started to look for acceptance by having intimate relationships with boys. There was one part in the autobiography where karrine had just been raped and held hostage in a hotel room buy a young troublemaker in the neighborhood and came home early one morning three days later. Her mother just simply said;
QUOTE
"You smell like sex!You're disgusting!Go take a shower" (Steffans,32).
REACTION
I was just so surprised that her mother didnt even ask what had happened to her and if she was okay. She simply just called her disgusting and shunned her. I would be severely depressed if i ever had a parent who treated me this way. I also would have fought back even if I knew I most likely wouldn't win the fight. I was just so shocked that her mother wouldn't show her the love and care that she deserved. I believe that if she wasn't ready to share the spotlight with a child, then she shouldnt have had a child or put her self in the situation where she would get pregnant in the first place. :(
