Cnfessions of Video Vixen p.81-121

SUMMARY
Now that Karrine is away from  Kool G Rap, she is getting even more involved in the Rich and Famous scene. She forms a relationship with Ice-T as well as lands a movie role in the movie A Man Apart starring Larenz Tate. She also starts a relationshop with Ja Rule, a famous rapper in the early 2000s,all the while neglecting her one year old son Naiim. She leaves Naiim with her abusive ex husband for weeks and even months at a time. Her life is being consumed by the party life and her latest escapades with famous men. She realizes that the men are only for a short time of pleasure but, for the time being, she doesn't care and continues to drink, take drugs, and party.
QUOTE
"The only beacon of light was my son and my relationship with papa. He was all I had left. Back then, I just couldn't stand the idea of being alone" (Steffans 121).
REACTION
Karrine by this time does not have her priorities straight and neglects to take care of her son or see him frequently. The quote above does not specify wether the "he" that she is referring to is papa or her son (which disturbs me a little bit). Karrine is obviously lonely in the industry and is aware of that fact but she just needs constant attention and affection to distract her from the fact that she is alone. To me, Karrine's life is sort of spiraling out of control but she doesn't know the severity of it yet.

Confessions of a Video Vixen p.41-80

SUMMARY
Karrine is now away from her mother and is living with her father in Arizona. Her life is now getting much better and she is no longer being abused. She lives with her father until she turns 17 and her life starts to go downhill again. She needs to make money so she can do for herself and the only way that she can do that is to become a stripper. She starts to work at a local Arizona strip club and meets a man named Kool G Rap, who was a big rap artist in the late 80s and early 90s. Not knowing that she was only 17, he takes her back to los angeles to live with him and she becomes his unofficial "wife". Soon after she moves in with him, he begins to beat her and cheat on her with no regard for her feelings. About a year into the relationship Karrine is pregnant and the abuse is getting worse as well as Kool G's health. She has contemplated leaving him many times but his verbal and physical abuse has wore her down.
QUOTE
"F*ck you, you stupid b*tch!I don't give a f*ck! I'm not sending you sh*t!You'll just have to suffer." (Steffans,77)
REACTION
Karrine would have to put up with things like this being said to her. Their relationship was very destructive for her and Kool G at the same time. Kool G was so destructive to Karrine and himself because he would hit her and then she would call the police and he would get arrested. Kool G already knew what he was doing to Karrine because he clearly said "You'll just have to suffer". He wanted Karrine to need him because he wanted to have all the power in their relationship.

Confessions of a Video Vixen pg.1-40

SUMMARY
Karrine Steffans talks about her life living on the island of St. Thomas with her grandmother,who treated her with much love and respect and her mother, who frequently abused her. She was born and raised in St. Thomas until she was about eleven and was loved and protected by her grandmother from her mother who was abusive verbally and physically. In St. Thomas she was always looked after by her grandmother because her mother was always neglecting her. Around the time she was eleven, she and her mother moved to Florida and that's when her mother really started to abuse her. she whipped her back until open sores and welts started to form and called her names like whore and worthless. Because of this Karrine started to look for acceptance by having intimate relationships with boys. There was one part in the autobiography where karrine had just been raped and held hostage in a hotel room buy a young troublemaker in the neighborhood and came home early one morning three days later. Her mother just simply said;
QUOTE
"You smell like sex!You're disgusting!Go take a shower" (Steffans,32).
REACTION
I was just so surprised that her mother didnt even ask what had happened to her and if she was okay. She simply just called her disgusting and shunned her. I would be severely depressed if i ever had a parent who treated me this way. I also would have fought back even if I knew I most likely wouldn't win the fight. I was just so shocked that her mother wouldn't show her the love and care that she deserved. I believe that if she wasn't ready to share the spotlight with a child, then she shouldnt have had a child or put her self in the situation where she would get pregnant in the first place. :(
