The Lovely Bones p.1-112

SUMMARY
In the first nine chapters of the book, the main character, Susie Salmon is already dead. She tells the reader about how she died and who murdered her. Her murderer is her family's next door neighbor named George Harvey. She is watching from heaven all the happenigs in her neighborhood in the days after her death. No one suspects Mr. Harvey and Susie wants to be able to communicate with people on earth in order for them to put Mr.Harvey in jail. Her heaven is specialized specifcally for her and everything that comforted her on earth is incorporated in her heaven. After about two days of Susie being missing, her parents decide to call the police to search for her. They find a lead in the cornfield near her home (which is where she was murdered) and find a large amount of her blood in the soil whih leads them to believe that she was killed and is not missing. Meanwile Susie's father is investigating on his own and his snooping leads him to believe that Mr.Harvey had somethng to do with his daughter's dissappearance. About a week after Susie's death, they have her memorial and all of the students from her Jr. High School attend the memorial. Even Mr.Harvey attends but stays unseen. Susie's younger sister Lindsey is sitting next to their gandmother when her grandmother leans over and whispers in her ear that she overheard that their father  believes that the man by the door has killed Susie. Lindsey looks over to see Mr.Harvey and they make eye contact;as soon as they make eye contact, she passes out.
QUOTE
"I could not have what I wanted most: Mr.Harvey dead and me living. Heaven wasn't perfect. But I came to believe that if I watced closely, and desired, I might change the lives of those I loved on earth." (Sebold,20)
REACTION
This book is different from other books that I have read because when the book starts, the main character has already died and the narration is almost like a tri-narrative vioice. She is watching over all of her peers on earth and telling how they feel and of her time before she died as well as how she feels after realizing that she has died. Also, its very painful to read this story because we all know who did it and what happened BUT the other characters don't so we have to endure the process of the rest of the characters uncovering the truth.
